Happy New Year from the Core Connection Mobile Physiotherapy team! As we gear into a New Year we thought we would let all our clients see the amazing events we have planned for this month.

1) January 1st: We welcome an amazing new addition to the team, Athletic Therapist, Laura Nipp.

Laura is a Certified Athletic Therapist specializing in Neurological rehabilitation and Yoga for the Pelvic Floor. For your convenience, she offers mobile athletic therapy on Monday, Thursday and Friday evenings.

After working as a Kinesiologist and Yoga instructor for several years, Laura moved to Victoria where she further pursued her education in Athletic and Exercise Therapy. Laura has been a Certified Athletic Therapist since 2011 and has spent the majority of her career working with spinal cord injury and other neurological conditions.

Laura enjoys running, yoga and exploring the outdoors with her husband and two daughters. We are excited to welcome her to the Core Connection team!

2) January 2nd: Roundhouse Midwives Connecting Pregnancy Group – Pelvic Floor Health information session.

This group helps with pregnancy and postpartum Pelvic Floor Education for the patients of Roundhouse Midwives.

If you are expecting, be sure to visit the Roundhouse Midwives, they are a phenomenal team and the facility and grounds are absolutely gorgeous. You will NOT be disappointed.

3) January 8th: Westshore Best Babies Group – Pelvic Floor Health information session.

Best Babies is a free, registered program for both expectant women and new mothers in need of extra support. Whether it be limited resources, isolation or health issues, Best Babies is dedicated to helping any new or expectant mother get the support she needs. Funded through the Vancouver Island Health Authority, the program offers support for pregnant women and new mothers up to 8-weeks post-partum. Women attend weekly group sessions that cover topics including prenatal education, health, nutrition and infant care. Each session offers the new and expectant mothers an opportunity to connect and socialize over a free, nutritious lunch. For those mothers with older children, childminding is offered during the educational session. Also available for those who need it: food vouchers, bus tickets, vitamins, pamphlets and additional support and information.

4) January 14th: Sooke Public Health Unit Baby Talk – Postpartum Pelvic Floor Health information session

Baby Talk is a free, informal drop-in group put on by the Sooke Health Unit. Session topics focus on infant development, covering ages 0-12 months and are led by a public health nurse. They are held every Tuesday from 10am-11:30am.

The Health Unit is located in the CASA building on Townsend Road. For weekly topics call the Health Unit at 250-642-5464

5) January 23rd: Victoria General Hospital Maternity rounds – Pelvic Girdle Pain during pregnancy presentation

Weekly grand rounds for obstetricians, family maternity doctors, midwives and maternity nurses on varying educational topics.

6) January 25th: Attending Victoria Gynecology Update 2020

To end the month, we will be attending the Victoria Gynecology Update 2020 conference. The Gynecology Update is an annual one day conference open to Gynecologists, Family Doctors, Nurses, Residents, Students and Allied Health Care Professionals to hear informative talks and updates on a range of Gynecology topics. We are even more excited to hear Dr. Melanie Atlas speak at the event. She is a Gynecologist (OBGYN) and is passionate about helping women.

For anyone who is a Gynecologist, Family Doctor, Nurse, Resident, Student or Allied Health Care Professional, the event will be hosted at the Delta Ocean Pointe Hotel and starts at 8:00am. More information can be found here.
