Preparing Your Pelvic Floor for Birth
A 2-hour group physiotherapy workshop that helps your body work with you in labour — practical, evidence-informed preparation for a smoother birth and a faster recovery.
Your pelvic floor plays a powerful role in birth
Preparing these muscles before labour helps your body work with you, not against you. Learning how to relax, strengthen, and control your pelvic floor can support your baby’s descent, reduce the risk of tearing or trauma, ease pushing and improve comfort in labour, and promote a faster postpartum recovery.
An evidence-informed add-on to childbirth education
This 2-hour workshop complements Childbirth Education Courses by diving deeper into the pelvic health perspective of birth preparation. Led by a pelvic floor physiotherapist, it offers practical strategies to support labour, delivery, and the early postpartum recovery period.
The focus is on helping you understand your pelvic floor, optimize your biomechanics, and learn hands-on techniques that support both vaginal and cesarean births — an interactive, supportive session with time to practise skills and ask questions.
By the end of this session, you will:
- Understand the role of the pelvic floor during pregnancy, labour, and recovery.
- Gain practical tools for perineal massage, pushing strategies, and pelvic floor relaxation.
- Optimize hip mobility and labour positions to support progress and reduce the risk of perineal injury.
- Explore early postpartum recovery strategies (0–12 weeks), tailored to both vaginal and C-section births.
- Leave with confidence in how to care for your pelvic floor through this critical transition.
